Negative refraction in twisted hyperbolic metasurfaces

چکیده

Abstract Hyperbolic metasurfaces with unique dispersion properties can manipulate light–matter interactions according to the demands. However, due their inherent physical properties, topological transitions (flat bands) exist only in orthogonal directions, which greatly limit application. Here, we unveil rich engineering and hyperbolic metasurfaces. Based on effective medium theory, rotation matrix is introduced into relation explain distorted energy band diagrams, iso-frequency contours higher-order multi-dipoles of novel twisted metasurfaces, thereby forming multi-directional surface plasmon polariton propagation. Furthermore, develop an integrated model realize new dual-channel negative refraction nondiffraction refraction. The phenomena observed experiments match well simulations, proves that designed make types possible will help overcome diffraction limit. presented here exhibit exceptional capabilities for designing microscopes a super lens at molecular level, concealment military aircraft, invisibility cloaks other photonic devices higher transmission efficiency.

Luminescent hyperbolic metasurfaces

When engineered on scales much smaller than the operating wavelength, metal-semiconductor nanostructures exhibit properties unobtainable in nature. Namely, a uniaxial optical metamaterial described by a hyperbolic dispersion relation can simultaneously behave as a reflective metal and an absorptive or emissive semiconductor for electromagnetic waves with orthogonal linear polarization states. U...

Anomalous refraction of airborne sound through ultrathin metasurfaces

Similar to their optic counterparts, acoustic components are anticipated to flexibly tailor the propagation of sound. However, the practical applications, e.g. for audible sound with large wavelengths, are frequently hampered by the issue of device thickness. Here we present an effective design of metasurface structures that can deflect the transmitted airborne sound in an anomalous way. This f...

Negative refraction in indefinite media

Initial experiments on wedge samples composed of isotropic metamaterials with simultaneously negative permittivity and permeability have indicated that electromagnetic radiation can be negatively refracted. In more recently reported experiments [Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 1074011 (2003)], indefinite metamaterial samples, for which the permittivity and permeability tensors are negative along only cert...

Reflection and refraction of light from metasurfaces with phase discontinuities

A three-dimensional extension of the recently demonstrated generalization of the laws of refraction and reflection was investigated for both flat and curved metasurfaces. We found that out-of-plane refraction occurs for a metasurface that imparts a wavevector out of the plane of incidence onto the incident light beam. Metasurfaces provide arbitrary control over the direction of refraction, and ...
